THE PITTSBURGH CULTURAL TRUST

The 2800-seat auditorium, lobby and restroom spaces were all authentically restored, including special new carpets and wall coverings to duplicate the original designs.  Plaster ornamentation, murals, paint colors, and aluminum leaf were all restored to their original glory. To ensure the finest acoustics, a new wooden proscenium was installed within the existing plaster arch that includes sound reflectors, accessible catwalks, and lighting positions.  A new nine-story addition expanded the stage to 114 feet by 86 feet, making it the largest column free stage in the country.  The addition also included dressing rooms, two major rehearsal spaces, office space, and a fully accessible orchestra pit.

The 3-level, 11,000 square foot Sloan Music Center was originally built as a library.  In its neoclassical style, two floors had large reading rooms on either side of the central entrance. With an abundance of natural light, these wonderfully large rooms lent themselves perfectly to form the new home for the Music Department.

Performing Arts Center

SETON HILL UNIVERSITY

The Performing Arts Center is a showplace and academic facility, designed to house Seton Hill University’s programs in theater and music.  The project incorporated principles of environmentally conscious “green” design, state-of-the-art theatrical technology and a contextual exterior design that took “cues” from the surrounding late 1800s early 1900s buildings. The project was a catalyst in the revitalization of downtown Greensburg, PA.
